Just snooping around the online reservations I find that there are two types of Wonderful rooms with King Beds (paid rate codes I and A) and two types with 2 Double beds (paid rate codes O and P). You can find out the code by moving the cursor on the Rate Details and looking at the second parameter to the script called.
For you to get rewards, it appears King rooms of code I or double bed rooms of code O must be available for paid booking.
Have no idea of how many of each exist in this place. It may be legitimate if most of these Wonderful rooms are sold at rate codes O ad I and hence available for awards and there are a few special rooms (corner, larger, etc.) of this type that are not made available for awards and sold at a different rate plan as well.
On the other hand, if there are only a small number of these code O and I rooms or worse they are all the same but only a fixed number of them are "released" in certain rate plans (and thus making them also eligible for awards), then that would be very counter to the spirit of the SPG marketing.
The hotel could have avoided all suspicions by labeling rooms on each different code plan differently or at least showing some differentiation in description. Since they do not do so, the second possibility above seems feasible.
William, is it possible to tell us if the same number and particular room numbers are always designated for the rate plan eligible for awards (i.e., available for I and O paid rate plans) or do they regulate how many and which rooms they release (or not) for the award bucket depending on other factors? I am hoping that it is not the latter. Not being able to confirm the above does not help SPG's credibility.
