Not to mention Christmas time in Manhattan. Always a popular shopping venue. Also, I think the annual Army/Navy game is that weekend as well.
More than likely, PHL was correct. There was probably an Internet-only rate available at one point, then by the time he checked for an award there, the last room sold out. A lot of people never believe it can happen that quickly, but it most assuredly can.
