This is not the point... how can AC get away with charging outrageous taxes completely out of line with STAR? And why do we accept it?
The taxes on YHZ-LHR in Y/J aeroplan match those charged on Rev tickets for same date/route. On the REV tickets they are charging HST. This is why J rev taxes are higher bc fare is higher. But it shouldn't be so on points. Are they thus charging HST on a "free" ticket?

Your answer is that when Aeroplan tickets are issued the fuel surcharge is added seperately whereby on rev tickets it's included in the fare. For this reason when I go to Europe or Asia I try and use LH, LX, SQ and TG to avoid the outreagous fuel surcharges in Aeroplan tickets on AC metal.
They are not considered free tickets in my books for well over 10 years now.
