The small print quoted was true before they invented Airpoints Dollars. Now because rewards are available on all fares on sale which means the reward booking can be ticketed in any booking class. X, I classes are for partner airline use. NZ has created a program that's complicated enough to confuse consumers as well as themselves. I paid my last few trans Tasman flights by Airpoints and surprisingly they all earned status points. I suspect that if I bought a flexi fare using Airpoints I would earn both SP and AP.
