I have a slight problem here. My continental flight got switched up on 3/11 and lucky for me my baggage were nowhere to be found when I finally arrived to Zurich on 3/12. The swissport guy was nice enough and I got my reference number. He asked me where I was staying, I told him our hotel in Milan and he said ok it should be in Milan the next day.

After arriving in Milan, the baggage was nowhere to be found. I called them up again, and they assured me it was at the airport and ready to be delivered.

I checked via mylostbag.com and it came up with this:

"RECEIVED AT AIRPORT / DELIVERY PROCESS INITIATED"

And

"Passenger will be at this address until 12MAR"

"TO TEMPORARY ADDRESS/FORWARD TO MXP FOR LOCAL DEL ON BD
EXP"

So I assumed it was correct. Fell asleep, next day nothing. So again I called and again they said it was on its way and I should receive today. So me and my dad told the hotel and we went to Venice for the day. Slept overnight, woke up in the morning and came back at night.

STILL NO Trace of luggage. So at this time I panic, and I start dialing again, this time to MXP's lost luggage. Of course they claim they cannot help me because the luggage was not reported lost at MXP and thus I should contact my "original carrier / port". So I contact zurich again, finally get to another human operator.

She says they shipped it on flight to MXP on 3/12!!!! This is 3/14 (yesterday) when I called!! She says again I should call MXP. I tell her MXP cannot help me cause they need a "PIN" issued at MXP to track my luggage.

At this point, I cannot get through to MXP, because its an automated system. Myraid of phone calls dont work.

Basically, I got my "Luggage Tag" Swiss airlines used to send to Milan... and the swiss flight XX it arrived in.

So this is my dilemna... it its 1:36 am, I have a cruise ship i have to catch with my dad at 5 pm.... I am at the port city in Italy. IT will take me approx. 2:30 hours + 1 hr of tram one way so lets say 7 hour round trip.

My plan is to take the 6 AM train, get to the airport by the latest 10 AM and ask for my luggage.... and claim I forgot to make a lost bag form, but I have my luggage tag and arrived in Milan 3/12 on swiss flight XX...

Of course I never took the flight, but I figure some guy at lost luggage can find the bag for me using the bag tag number.... I hope to get my luggage within 2 hours of arriving at the airport.

So, can anyone of you experienced fliers tell me if this is a rational plan or not (minus the whole sleepy day ahead)? Anyone know how MXP lost luggage works and if they can pull it up in the system with my luggage tag? I have a reference number from Swiss airlines but it doesnt seem to do anything at the MXP lost luggage hotline.

I think the scenario happened:

1. The MXP people saw the 3/12 date, cant contact me cause i have no phone on me and decide to be lazy and not deliver

2. The MXP / italian postal service is just incompetent and my luggage is lost somewhere.

So how do I go doing about this? I am going to take a 3 hour nap, hoping someone replies!
