My budget would stretch to 5 nights at any of the KL hotels and 5 nights at any of the Langkawi hotels except the FS or the Datai, which are much pricier than the others. I initially felt that the Andaman would do the job but after reading up on it I'm not so sure. I'm thinking perhaps I'll shorten the Langkawi trip to three nights and opt for a three night stay at the Datai for a small premium over the original plan (although I still can't stretch to the FS!).

That would give me two nights spare to spend back in KL at the end of the trip, as we plan to put the Langkawi trip in the middle.

Three questions really:

- I'm willing to try two different KL hotels, one for the first five nights and one for the last two. I'm erring towards the Shangri La for the first five and the RC for the final two, although the Mandarin Oriental is also doable. I'm open to suggestions on which you'd recommend, or others to look at.

- The Datai has always been a hotel I've wanted to try, being a big fan of GHM hotels elsewhere. However, I'm open to suggestions in Langkawi and am interested to know if anyone thinks I should revert to the longer stay in the Andaman plan.

- We don't necessarily have to go back to KL for the final two nights/three days, so is there somewhere else that's within striking distance of Langkawi and KL that we could go to, in order to mix it up a bit? Someone suggested the Cameron Highlands but I'm struggling to find anywhere luxurious (not willing to compromise on comfort, this is our yearly 'big' holiday) there. Again, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks guys in advance for any help offered with this....

The Datai and FS Langkawi are both great. If you can stretch to 3 nights at The Datai and move to another Langkawi hotel for a couple of nights,it could work for you.
The Tanjung Rhu resort is close to the Four Seasons,we didnt stay there but passed by and it looked quite pleasant.Theres also the quirky Bon Ton resort but it's not a luxury hotel and definitely not for everyone.
