Travel to Japan - NRT
There were a few posts regarding future travel to Japan in cova's NRT-EWR post, so I thought it'd be nice to start a separate thread to share thoughts and ideas of how fellow FTers are dealing with it and how CO's been able to accommodate them.
My experience:
I have flights scheduled first full week of April to NRT for a trip with my family. Obviously with all that's happened in Japan, we are strongly reconsidering our trip.
As you all know, Continental.com site shows that change fee and fare class differences are waived for flights originating 3/11-3/18 and commencing by 3/25.
Since our itinerary was another 3 weeks away, I was curious what CO would say. Turns out they've put a note in the itineraries of our entire party that we can cancel our tickets at any time up to the day before the date of travel, and either re-book a different itinerary within a year while getting back the difference in the form of a travel voucher. It also sounded like you can opt for the travel voucher right off the bat, but it wasn't very clear the way the csr worded it.
So, overall we're happy because we'll be able to avoid the $250 x 5 people change fees that we'd incur to change the itinerary.
I suggest definitely reaching out to CO to see what they can do to help. The situation in Japan is no secret, so my impression was that they'll do whatever they can to help.
