Whenever possible, if I have an important meeting in the morning, then I never book the last flight of the day before. If delays happen, then there are often no or few alternatives.
+1
I was with you until the "pain and suffering" comment. You had no pain. You had no suffering. You had inconvenience. Furthermore, I cannot imagine what being a woman driving in a car has anything to do with anything. If you feel you, as a person, are too delicate to travel, then stay at home.
You are owed the rental car reimbursement, as you were promised. Strongly keep pushing that point with DL. I totally agree with you there. Trying to elicit pity and whining about pain and suffering makes me want to not agree with you, and will likely have the same impact on anyone at DL who reads your requests. My eyes actually rolled when I read each of those statements. Those statements made me stop agreeing with you.
Start from scratch. Write down bullet points: I was promised reimbursement by X. Again by Y. I relied on that promise and expect DL to follow through. As others have mentioned, the pity-me stuff weakens your valid claim.
Good luck. Let us know what happens.
