Personally i find the system great, check-in takes 30 seconds and off to the gate/lounge you go. Simply scan the m-pass thats attached to the back of my phone. Sometimes i have fragile items so check-in takes me around 5-10 minutes, occasionally queues at the fragile baggage belt (AKL). Regional Airports i usually save time and just got straight to the agent, as you have to go there anyhow to drop bags.

Agents usually roam around the Kiosk's, and if in doubt or there is an issue, simply to go the Premium Check-in counter and get assistance.

On the Weekends AKL Domestic can be a zoo with lost/confused people so the lines for the help desk/check-in/group check-in's looks to be very long, so the kiosks are the fast lane.
