Thanks very much, folks. Besides a flight which got diverted to SYR because of an ATC screw-up (sat there for 2 hours getting the issue resolved), the driving portion worked out great. The roads leading into & out of the airport were hopelessly potholed and under construction. I took 20, cut over by the military hospital to 40, merged with 417, and it was smooth sailing to Ottawa.
On the way back, a Canadian colleague asked for a ride back to Montreal to the Dorval train station. I had a personal navigator. Coming from the west, there is a gas station at the exit for the Dorval train station -- just take the right coming off the exit and it's right there. The added benefit was that he told me how fast above the speed limit I could drive and not get caught.
The U.S. departure areas on Friday evening at YUL were almost completely deserted! It took me less than 30 minutes from the time I parked the rental car to the time I got to the departure gate, despite having my BP scanned at least 7 times (see my post in TS&S).
Thanks again!
