ummm I understand there could be inconsistencies with any airline and any product
but having been on J from AKL-PVG and PE from PVG - AKL last September, it was really well done.
I was served by mostly Shanghai based crew. I had a long chat with a few of them and saw one of them back and they recognised me... the service was truly exceptional for me, so I think the statement you gave about not ever trying to fly it again is a bit strong.
Mind you, J seats to PEK/PVG are by far cheapest when compared to another carriers when on special, and they do have good special from time to time, it is just if I would like to get there in the first place
