Leisures Left in Limbo????

I am new and want to thank all of you who post here on a regular basis. A special thanks to nsx, curbcrusher, and ftnoob for all the extra reseach and digging they do to help us thru the mine field. I have learned a whole lot more than I thought was possible. Here is our situation and concerns:
We are retired and fly 4-6 times a year to see grandkids TUS-PDX(2-3) TUS-MSP(1-2) and TUS-LGA(1-2). This worked really well with RR1. Pay to fly to PDX, get credits, redeem and fly free to LGA. We also each have a RR Visa that we use to supplement the RR acct's. so that we do not lose any credits because of the 2 year limit. We have averaged 1 1/2 awards each for each of the past couple years. We alternate cards to accumulate the necessary credits. We use partner hotels, cars, dining, etc. We each have a pending award that can be topped off. I am wondering if there is a good reason to keep both RR Visa's since in RR2 points do not expire. Is it worth it to get the 3000 points for renewal each year? We will probably never reach A, A+, or CP status and are just trying to max out what is reasonable for us. We are open to ideas to increase our earnings, as well as any other help you can provide.
Thanks again for all the time you put in, too keep this site running. We really do appreciate your efforts and look forward to everyone's suggestions.
