MJM - i read your earliest post in this thread where you said something like 'it was a non event and people looked at each other and then carried on working' and thought ...!!

Then I saw it was posted on March 9!!

I am in tokyo as well and it certainly was a bit scary. Not speaking the language I was in a 7/11 when it hit and the staff and custoomers all ran out leaving me alone with products flying off the shelves around me.

Currently the streets are 5 deep with tens of thousdands of people walking home.

I just heard a report that public phones are free. not sure if that covers international (for those of you without cell pphone coverage).
