I have an aeroplan award miles itinerary beginning on Sat morning. My award ticket is all business except for the first segment (YVR-YYC). Upon booking this itinerary I was told that there was currently no available business class seating for this segment, however the agent did put a note on my account for me to be upgraded should room open up. My question is as follows: Does the manner in which I check-in (web,blackberry, in person @ yvr) affect my ability to be upgraded or this simply something that will happen last minute @ the gate and check-in method is a moot point here?

I would expect whatever class is officially booked.. check in at the gate.. say that you paid for business class, but none was available at time of booking, show your receipt proof of redemption.. maybe they'll bump you to the front.
