Hoarding behaviour is likely part of the problem as people have more upgrade options and are working through how best to maximize their person value from eupgrades.

Since I am routine based (i.e. same flights over and over feeling like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day), my strategy is the same as Z-man. Spend them, get more, repeat.
