That was just how people filling in the form would record it - so they'd record speed, altitude and phase of flight - and quite often you'd get 'take off' ticked when the a/c was in really random flight phases. Sometimes just wrong box ticking I'm sure, other times, just down to broad interpretations of what those phrases mean.

We did ask a few times if there were formal definitions. Everyone then produced their own definitions, hence us developing our own as well
