I actually had a few surprising stays while I was recently Gold for 90 days (sadly I was not able to meet the 12-nights to keep it). Each of the below was granted automatically at check-in. (But also, each of these stays was during the weekend, so except for the Miami property, there may not have been that many other elites there.)

At the Marriott South Beach I was upgraded from a regular room to an Oceanview room on the club floor (since it was a weekend the lounge was of course).

At the Renaissance Charlotte airport hotel I was put on a room on the club floor and given coupons for breakfast since the lounge was closed for the weekend.

At the Renaissance Providence I was given a 1-bedroom suite.
