In 2009 I used plain points to stay at the "downtown" HI at Santiago Bernabeu station for one night. Manager came out and gave me his business card, upgraded me to some ginormous room that included a full-size dining room table, sent up a fruit plate and water... I felt like a rock star. I thought the hotel was fine, nice lobby, plenty of places to eat nearby, right on the subway.

I opted for the day pass to avoid the possible confusion (my confusion!) of the airport supplement... worked great! Plus The Prado museum had free evening hours, so I could hop the subway from the hotel and hit it for no extra charge.

Enjoy Madrid! Dang those people really DO party all night long!!
