Actually I called about this a couple of weeks ago, and after verifying what email address was linked to my existing TripIt account (that I use with the android app), they got my TripIt account updated to a Pro account without charge.
It took about a week, but I have to give Amex credit for ultimately providing excellent customer service to all of us non-Apple/RIM customers. :-)
