As pointed out, this is common for Asian carriers to prevent fraud.

The best thing to do would be to photocopy the front and back of the card in case you lose the original. If you also have photo ID matching the name printed on the copy of the card, a reasonable check-in agent should allow you to board but, obviously, different airlines will have different policies.
