Relais & Chateaux is clearly number one for me, even being only a "marketing association" (but a very select one). Only with them you have an unparalleled mix of character, charm, courtesy and cuisine (not to forget the calm). Real hoteliers for real guests. Luxury can be defined in many ways.

I don't think there is a single high-end hotel brand that consistently gets every property right. Even Aman has had its turkeys (Amanwella?) and Four Seasons certainly has had a few that make my hair curl (Mumbai, Scottsdale, Sydney..),
Regarding Orient Express they have the potential, but are inconsistent indeed, but I love their trains.
