If your concerns are related to points and upgraded, then your feelings of it being a bummer may be justified.

I was lucky enough to go there in 1993 before Marriott was involved and thought that it was fabulous enough to go back even though Marriott was doing the managing.

IMO, it was great before and will continue to be great, and maybe better than it is now if that is possible.
