For example, UA862 is also HKG-SFO, UA838 comes from NRT, the SFO-DEN/DTW flights is on a 2 cabin aircraft, but carries C/F award space since its a "direct" international flight

Correct, and I have seen instances in the last 24 hours where the NC and NF space did not match on just such a flight. I specifically saw an instance where a 2 class plane had positive NC space but no NF space... It was interesting since I was looking to upgrade and wondered what that call would be like with the ICC
