The $3 left luggage charge has been around for awhile.

About four years ago, I had to attend a black tie dinner in NYC the weekend after Thanksgiving. As I flew into NYC on the same day as the dinner, I asked the store to deliver my new tuxedo to the hotel after the alterations were made.

In every other hotel I have ever stayed at, a note would be made in the record and the garment bag would be held at the front desk or already hanging in the closet of my room. Not at the NY Sheraton and Towers - I was told upon check-in that they knew something had been delivered for me but they had no idea where my tuxedo was. The only suggestion was that it was probably at left luggage. Imagine my surprise when the attendant refused to part with my garment bag unless I paid him $3. I have always wondered if they charge for receciving a FedEx as well!
