The $49 rate was available using that promo code for dates in March & April - I'm guessing the 72hours is up though..
Suites almost essential for this trip as it's a special occasion.
If this offer was for any of the hotels on the Strip, I'd have had no further hesitation, frankly!

What are the dates you're looking at? If you use the MGM promo I mentioned above (use code: "goallin") you can grab a Queen or King Bungalow Suite for $95/nt from May 1 to the end of December if you're planning on heading out midweek (Sun-Thurs).
Its definitely not as big or fancy at 675 square feet but a decent deal to be in the middle of the Strip. How large of a suite did you need..? You could also try looking at all-suites hotels like "TheHotel" at MandalayBay - they often run promos like buy 2 get 1 free which ends up less than $100/nt. Its at the end of the strip but you can still walk to Luxor, Excalibur, MGM, NY NY etc.
