This hotel is notorious for non-recognition of Platinum MR members and only having award availability for rooms requiring cash upgrades. It is ironic that it is being upgraded to a cat 6, while the Vinoy will now be category 5. I would definitely stay at the Vinoy.

The Marriott Suites in Clearwater Beach is the only FS beach access property in the area, but the beach is across the street. We had a pleasant stay even though it is an older property. Although there isn't a CL, we receive certificates for an excellent continental buffet breakfast every day. The pool was nice and the view of the bay included almost daily dolphin sightings. We would stay there again.
