I do agree the surcharges are ridiculous! I definitely prefer up-front all in pricing. Is there any formal/transparent process for how fuel surcharges are determined? That would be a good starting point for regulating these seemingly arbitrary charges.
Try April 27 YVR-YUL, and May 2 YUL-YVR. Total Tango+ came to $972. It was close to $1100 when you price in with connection in YYZ or YYC cos I hate travelling on the narrow bodies longer than 3 hours.

I just got a YVR-SIN/ICN-YVR and total fare was $1002!
