The website certainly does say that checkin is allowed 24 hours from the departure of your final flight, but that's certainly not how it actually works. I'm hoping it's not a sign that things will change because that really disadvantages those of us at small airports, like YQR, where connections are so often necessary.
I've generally had the same experience. It says that, but it usually works anyways... with one exception I can easily remember anyhow.
YOW-YYZ-NRT-BKK. I had a 2hr+ layover at YYZ, ditto NRT, so NRT-BKK was so far away in terms of time it wouldn't allow me to check in until closer to t-18/15ish.
