I actually work for digEcor, the supplier of the digEplayer, and we are currently working on redesigning digEplayer.com to be more user-friendly and provide more information. Would you want an updated list on digEplayer.com of all the movies for airlines such as Alaska, Hawaiian, and United? And for how far out would you want the list (e.g. current movies and the coming movie set)?
Thanks for the input!
Welcome!
On FT, we'll take the data as far out as you're willing to give it to us.
Here are my chief recommendations for redesigning the digE:
- More storage or integration with on-board server (and/or streaming) via wifi for MUCH more content, old and new. This'd solve most of our complaints about content getting old.
- Improved response time. I'm used to iPhone/iPad instant response; digEs feel like they came from 1992, and I often overshoot the scene I'm trying to fast-forward to after a crash or reboot. (Fixing that would be nice, too.)
- Touch screen! We're in an iPhone/iPad world now.

- A better stand. If AS isn't going to install seat-side mounts like I had on OpenSkies, then some way to keep the viewing angle adequate without risking it tipping backwards would be nice. If you can figure out how to make it fit somewhere while dinner's being served on-board, that would be even awesomer.

- If it's going to integrate with wifi, integration with the cabin service and touch-screen ordering of buy-on-board items would be an effective way for AS to compete with VX.

- Better earphones. If/when my Bose QC3 battery dies on a looooong mileage run or I forget the charger (or whole earphones!) at home, I have to use the earphones that come with the digE. The problem is, on an airplane, they're almost useless. They're exactly the wrong size: too big to be able to wedge in my ear and get a good seal for good sound or to be able to stay in my ear without falling out at the slightest movement. And with all the background noise on the plane (without the ability to seal, even pressing them against my ear canal), I have to crank the digE's volume to the max, which lends itself to ear-splitting levels with a sharp, high-midrange (1-3Khz) tone during action sequences and imperceptible dialogue during quiet sequences. Maybe the option for dynamic audio compression (and a reduction in the upper-midrange frequencies) when using crappy headphones would help.
- Subtitles on ALL content, both to help with the above point (can't understand what they're saying half the time on the free headphones) and to make them usable for MVP Gold 75Ks who are deaf.
Nice to see them on Unstoppable last month, BTW. ^
Thanks for joining us here, and we're all looking forward to the improved product you'll release! ^
