The TSA has eliminated wands in the US (or at least reassigned them to train stations). Not sure about the CTSA. I believe the wand is sensitive enough to pick up metal jewelry. There was an old TSA incident where they forced a woman to remove nipple rings (with pliers) at the checkpoint.
