One of the benefits of booking 2 x one-way redemptions rather than a return is that if you find you cannot fly the outbound within T-24 you can at least get something back when you cancel the return.
I was told by GGL today that as long as you call them before T-24 on a return you can cancel the outbound, but not once inside T-24. I have had something possibly interfere with my miles redemption to AKL and was going to cancel the trip and rebook as two singles (don't know how I didn't book as two single in the first place). They said that if I called them before T-24 UK time then I could cancel the outbound part without affecting the return portion which is unaffected. If the US trip happens then I will earn some miles LHR - LAX then LAX - AKL and get 150k miles back. Although I will miss the CCR this way, unless my client puts me in F, it will be a good arrangement...
