Hyperacusis does make a good point. US airlines are introducing flat beds in J now. Unlike BA, they are less seats across each row, giving more space and a better premium feeling within the cabin.
US are 8 across just like BA, and it's quite difficult to get more than 4 across with the herringbone design.

BA will start, if not already doing so, looking into a new J product. Once Virgin bring out there new J shortly, BA will have to step up a notch.
Who says that BA haven't already started work on a new J seat? Will be interested to see a new VS seat.
