Time Zone Changes with Android, also data connectivity question

I have a Mac laptop with Google Apps as the server. My calendar can then go through ical, Gmail calendar and get picked up by my new Google G2 phone (an HTC phone sold in the US by T-Mobile). It is push and pull (events I put in on the phone hit my ical/Gcal calendars (and my assistant can pick them up) and vice versa.

This works fine except for one thing. When I travel to different time zones, which I do far too often, the phone doesn't adjust to the local time zone the way my Blackberry did. When she schedules a meeting at 10 AM in London, she has to enter it as 5 AM in my calendar. How do people with Android phones deal with changing time zones. The Blackberry was relatively seamless and this seems less good.

Also, when I was in India last week, I couldn't get the data connection working. It works in the US and I got it working in London with T-Mobile's help (they took it on and off the network). So, unless I was in a wifi hotspot, I couldn't get email until I got back to the hotel at night. As someone running a small but very global business, that doesn't work well for me. Has anyone else had problems with getting data connections in various places? T-Mobile has no idea why and kept suggesting strange stuff (the signals are too weak -- well all the folks with iPhones had no problems -- or maybe data roaming is turned off). If yes, how did you fix or improve things?
