(AA) DFW-AUS first thing on day 2
for the sake of clarity, the flight would land in DFW after the last flight to AUS had left.

Since BA permits en-route stopovers on award redemptions (even on partner carriers), I don't think you have to worry about the amount of time you spend in either NYC or DFW, provided that BA approves routing through those cities.
