So, I tried the AF website: the French, at least know and appreciate what a lady is! No problem there (checking in separately, but we have adjacent seats on both flights). However, I did notice that on the GLA-AMS flight, I was offered more choice in the forward seats than my friend (who is not in the FB programme), so there is (maybe) still some remnant of the 'preferred seating' for Elites on some s/h flights.
