After the first day's miserable experience using the Downtown Disney Resort "charter" busses we did the following:

To get to the parks, we ended up walking to Downtown Disney, then took a Disney bus to a close by "on property" resort. We then walked (Epcot), boated (MGM) or monorailed (MK). In every case I'll wager it was faster than using the Downtown Disney "charter bus" system. If it wasn't faster, it felt faster as we were moving, and not sitting around waiting on a bus, and then getting to see 2 other resorts (The Hilton was the 4th or 5th stop).

To get back, we did the reverse or used a cab.

We spent a lot of time wishing we were at an "on property" resort
