Yeah, I always bring supplementary food aboard in case there's little or nothing available- the only exception is international Business, where food on long-hauls is adequate. (And BA, bless them, has a little pantry you can visit if you have the munchies and it's not regular mealtime.)

I think that 8 hours without meal service on a daytime flight is way too long and I hope that was just an error on that flight. I'm normal height/body weight and need something over that stretch to keep my blood sugar up.
