Maybe BA should just rip out all their IFE and tell everyone to use their laptops if they really want to watch small-screen movies. Then people can customize their viewing experience to the quality and reliability they want.
What would be a great idea is to put a media server (iPlayer style) on each aircraft and allow users to stream movies/TV shows to their device of choice over Wi-Fi. Would cut down on all the cable and hardware issues dramatically. I would actively support an airline that chose to do this. If people aren't travelling with their own kit (increasingly unlikely IMHO) then a they can borrow a device (an iPad probably).
