I think many here would say, based on experience, that A-class fares are eligible for involuntary downgrade compensation... only if you are willing to fight like hell to get it... or if you are lucky enough to get an enlightened agent.

Far too many people have been told, in the case of IROPs, that an A fare is just a coach fare with a "complimentary" upgrade and that, in their particular situation, DL was taking back the compliment.

I anticipate that we will hear the same about P fares and that, soon, we will be seeing threads from folks who bought-up only to be pushed down in the case of IROPs. Why should we be surprised? After all, that is essentially what the OP was told.
