Why not make the one you're not going to cancel first, then apply the suite upgrade to it, then make a separate res for the one night you might cancel? Then, maybe you could contact the property directly if you end up staying both nights, and see if they can stretch the suite across both nights? Or see if Diamond folks can help you?

What I would do (f you can) is put the night you might cancel 2nd in the res.....in that manner, if you have to (and it is the normal 24 hours cancellation policy) could do so when you arrived.....
Logic says you should be able to do it....but too often logic and loyalty programs do not seem to have much in common.
