One must be persistent and think about all routing; I have been able to secure
two Business seats several times between US and Aus, for ourselves and for friends. But sometimes the routing has been via BNE, which seems to often have more availability / be less popular, and some AA employees only think you can fly to SYD or MEL.
Whatever stories you are fed by AA staffers, the
truth is that QF frequent flyers get access to these seats
355 days out, so everyone else is really left with the dregs.
Again, do check using AA partners, such as FJ via Nadi or TN via Papeete.
