I can see how, from a frequent Pan Am customer's perspective, it would seem that their premium product went downhill... My argument was more around the fact that the overall market's F and J weren't innovating in hard product like they are now, so to suggest that the death knell that led to Pan Am's demise was a poor premium seat I feel is off base. I believe their yield management practices in light of deregulation were a major problem, but I think they could have made it through had they not bought National. That was a horrible, horrible decision for Pan Am, and I believe that's what put the company properly on course for failure--not that Pan Am couldn't have recovered had they tried, but it was such a horrible move that it made survival increasingly more difficult. By the time they divested TPAC and LHR routes, it was over.
