So I was hoping someone familiar with European travel and the Zurich airport in particular can give me an idea of how long a layover I need to make sure I get to my next flight. Here's the detail:
I will be arriving in ZRH at 0825AM on a Sunday morning in May. I need to be in Budapest by that evening. The cheapest flights I can find out of Zurich are on Swiss.
So, my viable options for cheap flights on Swiss are either a 9:40 departure or a 12:30 departure.
If I arrive at 0825 from the US into Zurich, is an hour and 20 minutes enough time to get off the plane, pick up baggage, get through Swiss customs and border, get to Swiss counter to get boarding passes and check my bags again and get to the new gate to fly to Budapest.
I usually fly direct to European locations, and I've only ever once had to do a transfer and that was through Frankfurt... and honestly, I don't remember how long it took me to get through everything.
So, any advice on how long it would take me to get through all that I just listed above?
Also, is there anything cheaper than Swiss flying from Zurich to Budapest? The ZRH website lists a few discount airlines, but none of those seem to fly to Budapest.
I'm not the least bit comfortable with 80 minutes for this connection. And be careful of the 12:30pm flight. In Zurich, just about all of the international flights leave in the 12noon-2pm time frame and this chokes the security lines.
