When we flew to SFO, we found the US Air connection quite convenient to LAS and was only $100.
For travelling back to SFO, we flew LAS-MCE on a little Beech 1900. Was a fab flight and we landed at the tiny Merced airport which has a bag scanner, a coke machine and an Avis desk. The pilot gets off the aircraft to get your bag out and drops it at the front of the airport

I think the service is run by Great Lakes Airlines, it was a United codeshared flight when we did it.

We then spent 4 days in Yosemite, and then drove to San Francisco. The drive is pretty spectacular.
