OT - Emergency Evacuations from overseas

Just out of pure curiosity - does anyone know what the UK/other countries' policies are on the evacuation of non-citizen spouses are from problem countries?

For example, if Mrs SCB and I were in a situation such as is currently happening in Libya would the British assist my wife in this situation as well as me (I am British, she is not but has residency in the UK)? Conversely, could I expect any help from the Canadians (her nationality)?

Purely hypothetical, of course and I am thankful not to be (and hope never to be) in such a situation.

Thoughts and prayers to those stuck in TIP and elsewhere in Libya - from the worrying scenes on the BBC today it seems things will, sadly, get a lot worse before they get any better.
