And sadly no North American credit issue chip and pin cards which is what much of western Europe uses now. Technically they can still run a US card by inputting the numbers into the machine itself, but that takes convincing for some. I'm lucky in that I have Euro cards, or I use my American cards at the BankofAmerica machines located on military bases or in Frankfurt/Rome.

If I have to use an American card at local ATM I use my debit and take a larger amount. I must echo the Capital One comment above. They are great for no foreign fees.
