In order to alleviate the number of commuter flights at ORD for certain short distances, Chicago is working closely with Amtrak with plans to build a direct Amtrak station at ORD so as to create a air-to-rail type of connection similar to CDG and FRA. Some of the proposed Amtrak routes from ORD include St. Louis and Milwaukee.
I think this would be a potentially great code-sharing opportunity for AA to look into and support; why continue to feed ORD with shuttle flights from STL and MKE when Amtrak can do that job to feed into ORD for them?
Although it’s probably not likely that AA can cut all of their flights between ORD and STL or MKE, it might a good way to cut some service to STL and MKE, let the trains handle that job for them and use the planes for other destinations.
