Was I in the wrong (Did I push in?)

Just come in to T5 and unusually usewd Security North. I don't usually like North as the fast track doesn't often work properly there. Eventually I get close to the conveyor, and a German/scandinavian guy has positioned himself at the left side putting his stuff in a tray. I positioned myself to his right as there was space for two people to his right. He had a pop at me telling me that I was pushing in and that there was a queue. The security guy backs him up up more than me and puts it down to a misunderstanding.

In south there is always two people at the conveyor and the security staff tell you to use all the slots. Otherwise the queue won't move. I don't believe that I pushed in, and I let him through the sensor before me.
