Amex Premier Reward Gold application experience

I wanted to share my experience with my application process for the Premier Rewards Gold application today.

Earlier, I had logged onto my current Amex account and proceeded to the application page for the gold card and after submitting, A message displayed that the system could not "process my application" and I should call the 1-800 number.

I assumed I was declined at this point and almost gave up here, but I decided to call the number anyway. When I talked to the customer service person (lady), we went through the questions for the application as expected.

After all the questions were answered she asked me to hold because the application was "processing". Then after about 5 minutes, she came back on the line and told me that the "application could not be processed at this time". Which then I immediately assumed it was declined. She then said I could check my status in one hour if I go to the AMEX{website} /applicationstatus.

After about thirty minutes I decided to check the online website and of course it said it was still "processing" but right about that time, I received an email from Amex saying that I should call back with a given reference number because they needed "additional information".

Whe I called, the person at Amex asked me for my basic personal information and then said I was "approved" and I would be receiveing my cards in the mail soon.

I decided to revisit the site and guess what? it now said approved!

I just wanted to post this on here in case anyone has a similar experience in the future. Don't assume you have been declined just because they can't give you an answer right away.
