Any official government issued ID is fine. Even a foreign passport should be ok, as it's only used for ID purposes.
When you land in SJU there's no checkpoint or anything like that. It's not even like in HI where you have an agricultural officer standing there giving you the crook-eye as you pass the "amnesty bin". Upon departure the only ID check is at the TSA checkpoint (or the airline ticket counter if you check bags). Again, it's just like any regular domestic flight.
I've never been to the USVI, but I always assumed it works the same way.
